KIEV, June 16 - Ukraine may start using anthracite coal burning power units in July to cope with growing power demand as air temperatures increase, UkrEnergo, the country’s power grid, said Friday.
This comes months after the government has ordered all such units to shut down in order to save anthracite coal amid shortages due to military conflict in the east.
“Taking into account the expected rise in power demand, we will be forced to start anthracite units as soon as in July,” Vsevolod Kovalchuk, acting head of UkrEnergo, said in a statement.
