BRUSSELS, Aug. 15 – The European Union said restrictive measures taken by the EU are directly linked to the Russian Federation's violation of international law with the illegal annexation of Crimea and the destabilization of Ukraine.

"The European Union notes that the grounds for the imposition of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation remain valid," the Council of the EU said in the conclusions of its Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Ukraine on Friday.
