Obama backs Ukraine call for Red Cross humanitarian mission to Luhansk

KIEV, Aug. 11 - U.S. President Barack Obama has supported Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's initiative to organize an international humanitarian mission for Luhansk under the aegis of the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the participation of the European Union, Russia, Germany and other partners, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.

"The U.S. president expressed support for the Ukrainian president's moves, including Petro Poroshenko's initiative to organize an international humanitarian mission for Luhansk under the aegis of the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the participation of the EU, Russia, Germany and other partners. Barack Obama reaffirmed the United States' determination to take an active part in the international humanitarian mission," the press service said after Poroshenko's telephone talks with Obama on Monday.
