BRUSSELS, June 20 – The European Commission will continue its attempts to achieve a compromise between Russia and Ukraine in settling the gas issue and Moscow, and it has been proposed to Kiev to hold a new round of trilateral talks, European Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger said.
Last Sunday the sides were not ready for a compromise, but they were very close to it, he said at a meeting with journalists in the International Press Association in Brussels late on Wednesday. It is required more flexibility for a compromise, he said.
Oettinger said that it is better not to look for bad and good sides in the issue, adding that Ukraine accepted the compromise proposed by him, while Russia rejected it.
