KIEV, Oct. 9 - Vuhlehirska Thermal Power Plant, a Ukrainian plant that was destroyed by fire in March, launched its first power generating unit in operation, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry reported Wednesday.
The shutdown of the power plant, the biggest consumer of coal produced in the region, led to a suspension of two coal mines, leading to layoffs and triggering social tensions.
The 300-MW power unit No.1 is now working at 66% of its capacity and the company plans to complete all work regarding to the launch of the unit by the end of the week, the ministry said.
