Bill in Parliament would set 12 year minimum farmland leasing term
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Sept. 30 – The minimum term of farmland leasing should be 12 years.

The requirement is stipulated in draft law No. 3316 on amendments to some Ukraine laws regarding the stable use of farmland, the authors of which are MPs Oleh Kulinich (the Party of Regions faction), Stepan Ivakhiv (not a member of any faction) and Valeriy Lunchenko (the Batkivschyna faction).

The authors of the bill also initiate the changes in the methods for controlling soil fertility and protecting soil from the exhaustion. It is proposed to cancel obligatory land utilization projects, which ensure the ecological and economic feasibility study of the crop rotation, as due to the complicated study drawing up procedure only 2% of land users draw them up. The authors of the bill believe that the observation of the crop rotation does not guarantee the maintenance of fertility.
