KIEV, Aug. 18 – Russia decided to deploy its trade restrictions against Ukraine after obtaining reports that European leaders may have been leaning towards signing free trade and political association agreements with Kiev, a newspaper said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was first convinced that jailing of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko by the Ukrainian authorities would derail the agreements, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia said Saturday.
