KIEV, July 3 - Ukraine may be able to import up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe annually via the Slovakian gas pipeline route, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytskiy said Wednesday.
Ukraine, which has been successfully testing the route since May 15, is seeking assistance from the European Union to sign an agreement with Slovakia on July 4.
Ukraine, which plans to reduce its reliance on Russia, has been already importing small amount of European gas via Poland and Hungary, but opening the Slovakian route would be a game changer because of its massive capacity.
