KIEV, April 15 – Over $100 billion of currency is in hands of Ukrainians, First Deputy Prime Minister and former governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov said.
"We have a deep domestic market, the public has over $100 billion in hand. The money is exposed to risks – from being eaten by mice to crimes," he said in an interview with Korrespondent.
Arbuzov added that the government has started issuing government securities for the public aimed at attracting the funds.
In September 2011, he director of the general department for the monetary and credit policy at the NBU, Olena Scherbakova, said that the volume of cash currency outside the banks in Ukraine is about $70 billion.
