KIEV, Dec. 11 - Ukraine will seek to work with the European Union to upgrade its natural gas pipeline system carrying Russian gas to markets in Europe, Oleksandr Dikusarov, a spokesman at the Foreign Ministry, said Tuesday.

“Ukraine attaches great importance to the continued cooperation with the EU in the energy sector, including the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” Dikusarov said at a press conference.

Dikusarov said such modernization would improve Europe’s energy security.
