KIEV, Oct. 17 - Ukraine is preparing to launch in operation two new hydropower units at the Dnister Hydroelectric Pumped Storage Power Plant (HPSPP), the largest such facility in Europe, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boyko said Wednesday.
The units, often referred to as the second stage of the project, will be commissioned after October 20 and will triple the plant’s current power output.
“We have a major event coming after October 20,” Boyko told President Viktor Yanukovych at a government meeting broadcast by the state television. “We have implemented your order and will be launching in operation the second stage of the largest [in Europe] Dnister plant.”
Boyko invited Yanukovych to join the official commissioning of the power units at the plant later this month.
