KIEV, Oct. 9 - Russia suggested Ukraine should join a Moscow-led trade bloc in order to qualify for lower natural gas prices, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said Tuesday.
But joining the Customs Union would effectively undermine Ukraine’s free trade agreement with the European Union, Azarov said, explaining why Ukraine hasn’t done it so far.
Ukraine for more than 2.5 years has unsuccessfully tried to persuade Russia to lower gas prices from the current $431 per 1,000 cubic meters to between $230 and $250 per 1,000 cubic meters.
