KIEV, Aug. 15 - Two Ukrainian coal miners were killed on Tuesday after an elevating equipment malfunction at Sovetska coal mine in Mariivka, the Donetsk region, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported Wednesday.

The malfunction sent a bucket with five coalminers plunging to the bottom of a section of the mine that had been filled with water. Three miners managed to escape from the trap.
