KIEV, June 18 - Ukraine will turn its national natural gas producer and gas shipper into joint stock companies, potentially opening way for their future privatization, according to a government resolution published Monday.
The companies, UkrTransGaz and UkrGazVydobuvannia, currently parts of the national energy firm Naftogaz Ukrayiny. UkrTransGaz is the shipper of Russian gas to Europe, while UkrGazVydobuvannia is the biggest producer of gas in Ukraine.
The resolution is the first step in a plan to reorganize Naftogaz by breaking it to create separate entities, including the gas shipper, the gas producer and a gas trader.
