KIEV, Feb. 2 - Firefighters and rescue teams are working to put off a fire and to save three coal miners trapped at an abandoned Ukrainian coal mine in the Luhansk region, the Luhansk regional government reported Thursday.
The fire, at the Volodarskoho coal mine, which was out of operation for months, allegedly started after four miners had begun unauthorized coal mining in the area, the report said.
One coal miner apparently managed to escape the fire, the report said.
