MOSCOW, Dec. 20 – A joint Russian-Ukrainian production of the world's largest cargo plane, the An-124 Ruslan, will not be resumed any time soon, Russian daily Izvestia reported.
"As for production, nothing is ready at the moment. We are not giving up these plans, but we are saying that this will take a long time, as several conditions must first be met," Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said, the paper reported.
The An-124-100 Ruslan, with capacity to carry 130 tonnes, was manufactured serially at the Aviastar JV in Ulyanovsk, Russia and at Antonov plant in Kiev. Serial production of the planes came to virtually standstill following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Just 56 planes were produced, and most of them are still in commercial operation.
