KIEV, Dec. 2 – The National Bank of Ukraine has forecast a deficit of the balance of payments in 2011, whereas its previous forecast was a surplus.
"Already today we see that we'll have a deficit by the end of the year," said NBU Governor Serhiy Arbuzov. "However, this is not frightening as we see trends, the way the situation with the current account is changing and what financial account growth we've got."
The NBU governor did not name an expected amount for the deficit.
Arbuzov also said that the central bank will facilitate an inflow of funds into the economy with such instruments as central bank certificates, government domestic loan bonds and investment coins for domestic investor.
