KIEV, Nov. 3 - Opposition lawmakers demanded the government explain recent reports that the country will switch to Russian rubles, away from U.S. dollars, in paying for Russian natural gas imports.
This comes days after the National Bank of Ukraine reported that following brief negotiations in Moscow an agreement had been reached allowing Ukraine to use rubles for making the payments.
“We demand the governor of the central bank, jointly with the finance minister and the prime minister, to report to Parliament on who had given them right” to switch to rubles from U.S. dollars in the payments, Arseniy Yatseniuk, the leader of the opposition party Front for Changes.
