DONETSK, Oct. 18 - Ukraine and Russia will soon announce details of their talks on revision of natural gas agreement between the two, President Viktor Yanukovych said Tuesday.
Yanukovych made the comment after the talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Donetsk, Ukraine, where the two had participated in a bilateral economic forum.
“We will announce this in the near future,” Yanukovych said at the forum.
This was the first meeting between Yanukovych and Medvedev since they have reported progress in talks at a meeting on September 24 in Zavidovo near Moscow.
Ukraine has been unsuccessfully trying to re-negotiate the 10-year gas supply agreement with Russia negotiated by then Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in January 2009. Ukraine called the agreement “enslaving” and has been seeking to lower natural gas prices.
