KIEV, Aug. 11 - Ukraine in January-July 2011 increased electricity exports by 32.3% or by 749.7 million kilowatt-hours, to 3.073 billion kilowatt-hours, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry announced.
Electricity exports to Hungary, Slovakia and Romania from the Burshtyn thermal power plant in the first seven months of 2011 rose by 3.1 times or 1.138 billion kilowatt-hours compared to January-July 2010, to 1.683 billion kilowatt-hours. The increase is linked to the fact that there were almost no commercial exports of electricity to Eastern Europe in March-July 2010.
Belarus in the period imported 1.034 billion kilowatt-hours of Ukrainian electricity, which is 41.6% or 736.8 million kilowatt-hours less year-over-year. Ukraine did not export electricity to Belarus in May-June, as the country does not have money to pay for electricity, the Ukrainian ministry said. From July 2010, electricity exports to Belarus were resumed.
