KIEV, July 10 - Sixteen people died in Ukraine early Sunday after a fire broke out in a state facility for the elderly, according to Ukraine’s Emergency Ministry.
The retirement home was a wooden house built in 1950 in the village of Bile in the Dubrovitskiy district of the Rivne region, the ministry reported. As a result of the fire, 16 of the 27 people in the building at the time of the fire died. Eleven people, including two staff members, were rescued and are receiving medical treatment, according to the ministry.
The government, along with the prosecutor's office, has created a commission to investigate the cause of the fire.
