KIEV, April 12 - Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday failed to make progress in talks over natural gas prices and gas transit, and plan to continue the negotiations through June 7, officials said.
The development is an economic setback for Ukraine as growing natural gas prices have been putting rising pressure its the economy, threatening to slow down growth.
“I have to say that not in every issue we have managed to reach mutually acceptable decisions or even agree on approaches,” Igor Shuvalov, Russia’s first deputy prime minister, said at a briefing in Kiev. “But we have received an instruction from both prime ministers to work out this issue by June 7.”
