KIEV, Feb. 16 – The Industrial Union of Donbas Corporation (ISD, Donetsk) is actively selling Assigned Amount Units (AAUs) under the Kyoto protocol thanks to the elimination of environment-unfriendly production facilities at its steel works.
According to a press release by the ISD issued on Tuesday, the total volume of AAUs amounts to 25.5 million tons of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), which are to be accumulated from 2008 to 2012 at Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works, Alchevsk Coking Plant and Dniprovsky Dzerzhynsky Metallurgical Works.
Under an equipment upgrade project at Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works, one million AAUs and 1.842 million CERs have already been sold. The project involves the commissioning of new converters and a continuous casting machine manufactured by Siemens VAI.
