KIEV, Oct. 12 - The Prosecutor General’s Office on Tuesday dropped its lawsuit against ArcelorMittal, easing international concerns that the government may try to seize assets of the Ukrainian steelmaker.
The move comes days after President Viktor Yanukovych, in Paris, assured his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy that the government would not seek to re-privatize the steelmaker.
“To some degree we expected that this would happen,” Rinat Starkov, the general manager at ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, or AMKR, told reporters after the lawsuit had been dropped. “But I can’t say we have been absolutely sure this would happen.”
