KIEV, Sept. 15 – Ukraine’s National Environmental Investment Agency has initiated the creation of a joint carbon market with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
"After preliminary consultations with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, Serhiy Orlenko [the head of the agency] proposed the creation of a carbon market of the four countries. This is linked to the fact that these countries use the same technologies inherited from the time of the former Soviet Union," a posting on the agency's official Web site reads.
The agency noted that currently Ukraine is working on the development of the necessary legislation. Previously, relevant laws were submitted for examination by the governments of Kazakhstan and Belarus.
