KIEV, July 8 – Defense Minister Mykhaylo Yezhel was given until the end of July to improve the army’s combat readiness following a meeting of the top security body under President Viktor Yanukovych on Thursday.

The decision by the National Security and Defense Council means that Yezhel has effectively survived the immediate dismissal following heavy criticism from Yanukovych.
