KHARKIV, April 21 - Russia will reduce natural gas prices for Ukraine by an average of 30% as part of a complicated political deal that extends stationing of its navy in a Ukrainian port Sevastopol.
The agreements were reached at a meeting between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych in Kharkiv.
“We agreed to provide a discount on gas price,” Medvedev said at a press conference. “Our Ukrainian partners will get a discount of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters if the gas price is higher than $330/1,000 cu m, or 30% discount if the contracted price is less than $330/1,000 cu m.”
