BRUSSELS, Nov. 2 – The Swedish Presidency of the European Union is closely monitoring the situation concerning Russian gas supplied via Ukraine, according to a statement published by the presidency.

"Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, representing the Swedish presidency, spoke on the telephone with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin about the fact that Ukraine risks not being able to meet its payment commitments to the company Gazprom," reads the statement.
