KIEV, July 29 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko promised on Tuesday that "as soon as the crisis begins to subside," her government would "definitely" resume paying compensation to Ukrainians for savings in the former Soviet Sberbank and Gosstrakh insurance company that were depreciated during and after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The per capita compensation would be a maximum of UAH 1,000 under a May 20 government order.
Resuming the payment of compensations will become possible when the government has been able to "at least slightly improve state revenues" that the global financial crisis has caused to go down, Tymoshenko said during a telephone conference in Kiev with farmers.
