MOSCOW, March 31 - Ukraine will allocate from its budget UAH 44 billion ($5.7 billion) for the recapitalization of between 10 and 15 major banks, Oleksandr Savchenko, the deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday.
He said that this list included Ukraine's leading banks, which are essential for the economy and have a large deposit base.
He said that $5.7 billion corresponds to around 2%-3% of Ukrainian GDP. Savchenko said that the allocation of these funds would not have a substantial influence on inflation if earmarked directly for banking sector recapitalization.
