KIEV, Feb. 25 - The Ukrainian ballistic missile early warning stations (BMEWS) in Mukacheve and Sevastopol are completing their alert mission for Russia as of Feb. 26 to begin operating as Ukrainian space control systems (SCS).
"As of midnight on February 26 our systems will no longer be on alert for Russia due to the expiry of the Ukrainian-Russian BMEWS agreement effective since 1997, and will begin to operate as Ukrainian space control systems. Today the BMEWS are preparing to operate in a simplified daytime mode," a high-ranking military official told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.
