KIEV, Jan. 9 - The first group of European Union monitors arrived in Ukraine on Friday in an effort to unblock Russian natural gas supplies via the Ukrainian pipelines suspended since early Wednesday, the government reported.

The monitors are supposed to start working at UkrTransGaz’s central control center in Kiev supervising Russian gas transit via Ukraine, but also at points of entry and exit near borders, the government said.
