KIEV, Dec. 11 – Eight of the 12 space launches planned for 2008 with the use of launch vehicles produced by Ukraine were carried out this year, Interfax-Ukraine has learned from the Dnipropetrovsk-based Pivdenne Design Bureau spokesman Yuriy Moshnenko.
The Sea Launch company performed five launches from a floating platform in the Pacific Ocean using Russian-Ukrainian Zenit-3SL rockets, one launch of a Zenit-3SLB rocket was made from Baikonur cosmodrome in the frames of the Land Launch program, and two launches of the converted Dnepr Launch Vehicles were conducted - one from Baikonur and one from the Yasny launch pad in Russia's Orenburg region.
