KIEV, Sept. 29 – The UN is calling on Ukraine to help in fighting the global food crisis.
According to a posting on the official Web site of UN in Ukraine issued on Sept. 26, during a future official visit, Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP), John Powell, plans to meet representatives of the Ukrainian government and discuss Ukraine's possible contribution of grain to assist in addressing the global food crisis.
The official visit of WFP Deputy Executive Director to Kiev is the result of active talks between Ukrainian officials and the WFP. This is a response to the UN's request to Ukraine on July 15, 2008 concerning the global food crisis in Ethiopia and possible aid by Ukraine, reads the report, referring to the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Ukraine, Francis M. O'Donnell.
