KIEV, Sept. 11 – President Viktor Yushchenko wants the National Academy of Sciences to establish the causes of the major floods in the west of Ukraine late in July and draft proposals to avoid similar disasters in future.

"We won't find a correct answer without the National Academy of Sciences. With a clear position of the National Academy of Sciences we could do a lot of things through the National Security and Defense Council, the government, and the parliament," Yushchenko said at a meeting with National Academy of Sciences President Borys Paton on Thursday, according to the presidential press service.
