KIEV, Aug. 12 – According to international practice, insurance companies pay a leading role in the compensation of material losses from natural disaster risks, reducing pressure on the state, the League of Insurance Organizations of Ukraine (LIOU) said in a letter to President Viktor Yuschenko.

The floods in Britain in 2007 caused losses estimated at $7.2 billion, $4.8 billion of which was covered by insurance companies.
