KIEV, May 8 – Most of the construction assemblies built for the third and the fourth reactors of Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant can still be used for the completion of the reactors' construction, Khmelnitsky Director General Mykola Panaschenko said, referring to the preliminary results of a study conducted by the Kiev Research and Design Institute Energoproekt.
"The long halt in the construction work has led to the development of local defects and damage. Certain assemblies should be dismantled and replaced. [But] on the whole, the structural units of the third and fourth reactors can be repaired, and after all the necessary measures are taken they can be put into operation," he said during the meeting of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee which took place at the plant on Thursday.
