KIEV, May 7 – Ukraine should clarify how much Central Asian countries will charge next year for gas supplied to the Russian companies that resell it in Ukraine in order for the talks with Russia on the conditions of natural gas supplies after 2008 to be a success, according to Mykola Martynenko, chairman of Parliament’s committee for fuel and energy sector, nuclear policy and nuclear safety.
"Today, we do not have a picture of gas supplies for next year. There are two aspects here. First, during the calculation of the price, we would have to take into account Central Asian prices, whether we like it or not. Second, we don't know the formula of price formation for Central Asian gas supplied to Russia. Unfortunately, Ukraine missed an opportunity to work with Central Asian countries. Today, we should hold talks with them," he said in an interview with the Delo newspaper published on Tuesday.
