KIEV, April 10 – The development of cooperation between the national nuclear generating company EnergoAtom and Westinghouse is aimed at minimizing the risks of the stoppage of fuel supplies to Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which generate around 50% of electricity in the country, according to deputy fuel and energy minister and former EnergoAtom president, Yuriy Nedashkovsky.
"The monopoly in supplies of nuclear fuel is a real threat, but not due to the position of TVEL [the supplier of fuel to all 15 operating reactors of Ukrainian nuclear plant]. It's a very comfortable partner for the Ukrainian nuclear sector on the corporate level. This rather concerns political, natural and man-made risks. Their minimization is possible only through diversification," he said at a Parliament session on Wednesday.
