KIEV, March 28 - Naftogaz Ukrayiny, the national oil and gas company and the main shipper of Russian natural gas to the European Union, is on the verge of bankruptcy, President Viktor Yushchenko said Friday.

Yushchenko said the company has been facing mounting financial challenges because the government has been reluctant to increase domestic prices charged for gas supplies to households.
