KIEV, March 26 –The excess of foreign currency supply over demand on the Ukrainian interbank market over the past several days was a blip, and the balance on the interbank is being restored, according to Anatoliy Shapovalov, first deputy head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
"The situation [on interbank on Tuesday] is the following: the average exchange rate is around UAH4.97/$1. At the end of trading, commercial banks put forward UAH 4.99-5.00/$1. We did not buy [the currency]. The market has returned to our corridor, and we're not taking part in [trading]," he told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
