Turkmenistan balks at new gas pipeline championed by prime minister
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Jan. 30 – Turkmenistan, which Ukraine hopes to become an alternative to Russia source of natural gas, on Wednesday issued a statement questioning the future of a gas pipeline suggested by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko, while on a visit to Brussels this week, campaigned for political support for the construction of the pipeline bypassing Russia on the way to Ukraine and the European Union.
