KIEV, Jan. 9 - Ukraine was recently on the verge of losing its gas transportation system, according to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

"I think we were several weeks from losing our powerful state property, which is of geopolitical significance, for good," Tymoshenko said when opening a government session in Kiev on Wednesday.
