Ukraine struggles to meet coking coal demand after mine accidents

KIEV, Dec. 4 - Production of 6%-moisture metallurgical coke in Ukraine increased by 5.9% year-on-year to 18.327 million tons in the first eleven months of 2007, including 1.69 million tons in October, according to preliminary figures.

Coke producers managed to increase output despite the shortage of coking coal caused by growing demand, the head of industry association Ukrkoks, Anatoliy Starovoit told Interfax.
