KIEV, Aug. 3 – Emergency and healthcare ministry personnel identified as phenol the mystery gas that recently forced Ukraine’s largest exporter of iron ore to suspend production and evacuate its workers, the company reported Friday.

At least 174 workers were evacuated Thursday after some had complained of sickness following the release of the toxic gas at one of production sites at Poltava HOK, an iron ore concentration facility.
