KIEV, April 28 - The construction of the Bohorodchany-Uzhgorod gas pipeline is unjustified at the moment, because there is no demand in Europe for additional Russian gas, Gazprom Deputy CEO Valery Golubev said.
"We should build when it is required. The volumes of gas Europe can absorb have been divided, and the current [gas transportation system] copes with them. Should consumers in Europe be asking for more tomorrow, then there will be a necessity to start construction immediately," he said at a press conference after a meeting of participants in the international consortium to manage and develop Ukraine's gas transportation infrastructure on Saturday in Kiev.
