KYIV, Dec 18 – The former CEO of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU), Serhiy Makohon, has advised Naftogaz Ukrainy to begin importing natural gas in January 2025 to avoid depleting gas storage facilities during the peak winter months.
"During freezing temperatures, consumption could rise to 130–140 million cubic meters daily. Of this, 54 million cubic meters would be supplied by domestic production, while the remainder would need to be drawn from underground storage facilities (UGS). With storage nearly empty, it might be impossible to withdraw such volumes. Therefore, it's essential to start planning gas imports for this critical period now," Makohon wrote in his column for European Pravda.
