KYIV, Nov 20 – The environmental damage caused by Russia during 1,000 days of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine is estimated at approximately $71 billion, according to Ukraine's Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Svitlana Hrynchuk. She made this statement at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku.
"Over the course of 1,000 days of war, the environmental damage caused by military actions has been estimated at $71 billion. As a result of shelling and forest fires, an additional 180 million tonnes of carbon dioxide have been released into the atmosphere," Hrynchuk said during a press conference marking the 1,000th day of the invasion, as reported on the ministry's website.
