KYIV, Nov 7 – The mining and metallurgical group Metinvest is increasing the proportion of women in production roles previously occupied by men due to the war, mobilization of employees and personnel shortage.
As Metinvest representative Zoya Heintse said at the eighth Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv, historically, men predominate in the mining and metallurgical industry, since the industry involves physical labor and work in difficult or dangerous conditions. About 30% of women work in the company, and since the beginning of the war in 2014, mobilization has affected the gender composition of Metinvest, since about 10,000 men have been mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and this is almost 17% of the staff.
