KYIV, Oct 16 - A line for the production of nuclear fuel in Ukraine using the technology of the American company Westinghouse is planned to be built in 2026, agreements on the transfer of technology and the supply of equipment are currently being worked out in order to begin producing such fuel in 2027, said head of Energoatom Petro Kotin.
"There is a signed agreement with Westinghouse on the construction of a line for the production of Ukrainian nuclear fuel for VVER-1000 using their technology. This was the start of the process. Now other agreements are being actively discussed, in particular, on the transfer of technology and the supply of equipment for this line. We plan to complete its construction in 2026 and are doing everything to have our own fuel in parallel with Westinghouse fuel from 2027," Kotin said in a commentary to the Energy Reform online portal at the international conference on nuclear opportunities for the development of the country in wartime and post-war reconstruction organized by the company on October 15.
